The inadvertent expat blogger behind MapleHarborPath

Hello, I am Emily
I work as a project manager, a parent, and an expat based in Mountain View, United States.
Some years ago I moved here with my family. What began as a temporary assignment gradually became a new chapter of life abroad.
How It Started
Moving to United States wasn't part of the long-range plan. Like many expat relocations, it began as a job opportunity and soon grew into something far more significant.
The initial months were demanding — new systems, new routines, new expectations. Everyday tasks felt more run-down than they should have.
The Adjustment Period
There was culture shock, uncertainty, and a lot of learning by doing. But gradually, routines formed. We found places that fit us, connected with other families, and started building something that felt steady.
Why I Built MapleHarborPath
Most information online was either corporate-level relocation guidance or surface-level tourism material. What was missing was an honest, day-to-day family perspective.
This site exists to close that gap — practical guidance based on real life in United States.
What This Site Does (And Doesn't)
This site is:
- Real-world experience from living in United States
- Centered on family life and daily realities
- Updated whenever a real change occurs
This site isn't:
- Not a tourism-board resource
- A paid-review platform
- A generic travel blog
Looking Ahead
Our stay in United States continues, and so does the learning journey. As long as the information remains helpful, I’ll continue recording what we uncover.
If you have questions about family life in Mountain View or anywhere in United States, please don't hesitate to contact me.
Warm regards,
Emily
